STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE SIRENS

Following the release of ‘Big Stacked Steve’ Harry Handford - aka Strawberry Milkshake - is back with another piece of alternative songwriting and peculiar production with ‘Sirens’. This time the track features collaborator Henrio Verdaguer, and unlike ‘Big Stacked Steve’, this one is much more mellow. The effect of slow, almost clumsy, melodies, twinkling synths, and generous bass elements casts a sleepy-eyed haze over the listener; it’s soothing and safe, like the languishing lyrics reveal, “demons are chasing after me, / and blinded, I’m free.” ‘Sirens’ is a song about escaping reality, avoiding your problems, closing you eyes to even the most obvious of issues. This leaves the protagonist blissfully ignorant and asking himself “I don’t know where wrong, / maybe it’s because I sleep too long, / that I forget to call the phone?” Towards the end of ‘Sirens’, we’re taken out with a lullaby of acoustic guitar and piano, causing our own eyelids to drop, our minds to clear and to ultimately escape, even if only temporarily. - Hannah Thacker
